Tool Time: Getting to your destination just got easier

WazeToday I am feeling a little melancholy. Summer is fading away and those long sunny days spent on the dock at my cottage are becoming a distant memory. I have to say, I love spending time in cottage country … except for one part of it … the commute.

Living in Toronto, Canada’s largest and most traffic-intense city, escaping the urban confines has become a game of roulette. Should we leave before or after noon? Thursday or Friday? What route shall we take? All these decisions must be made with the purpose of getting to our destination in the least amount of time and dealing with the least amount of gridlock.

And then I discovered Waze. It’s become my co-pilot when I’m in the driver’s seat. [Read more…]

3 drinks to boost your productivity

3 drinks to boost your productivityThe end of summer means a few extra pounds have found their way to my waistline. I blame it on too much ice cream and wine! Can you relate?

I was whining about it to my BFF, Carol. Her solution was simple: drink.more.water.

Sounds easy but I find water incredibly boring to drink. That is, until I discovered it directly affects my productivity.

It turns out water makes your brain run more efficiently. When your brain is operating at peak performance, you get more accomplished. When you become dehydrated your brain tissue actually decreases leaving you feeling sluggish.

So in my quest to simplify water consumption, I came up with three drinks you can include in your day to help you stay energized and hydrated. [Read more…]

The secret sauce to making habits stick

The secret sauce to making habits stick

Last year I lost 15 pounds.

I hadn’t planned on losing weight, it was a side effect of seeing a naturopath and going on a three-month cleanse. Part of the cleansing process was sticking to a healthy diet, eliminating alcohol and taking vitamins.  I felt great. For a moment.

One year later I’m right back where I started

Looking back, I now see how much time, energy and money I wasted for a brief glimpse into what could be. With the help and accountability of the naturopath gone, as well as the healthy eating routine and reward of the dropping weight, I went right back to my usual ways.

That’s when I thought of you [Read more…]
